BIG Family Park in Small Town

Gladding McBean Factory

Just 40 miles north of the hustle and bustle of Sacramento, California’s Capitol city, lies the small town of Lincoln. It’s home to Gladding McBean, LLC, creator of all things pottery. The factory produces collectible art and other clay works that can fetch fancy prices and can be seen all over the world. It’s pottery at its finest, and Lincoln has become known for the beautiful art pieces.

But pottery isn’t the only delight Lincoln has to offer. Just a block from the factory sits the city’s largest and most beloved park, McBean Memorial Park. With 24 acres of fun and games and green space, the park plays center stage for the city’s love of celebrations.

And sure enough, Lincoln celebrates just about everything. It’s favorite not-to-be-missed party is the “Portuguese Picnic.” Yep, that’s what the locals call this 2-Day celebration of Portuguese heritage. Food, dancing, and happy times with family and friends make this celebration one of the city’s most beloved and anticipated. The Portuguese Picnic draws people from nearby cities and counties, and even other states. It’s one event the locals say you should never miss.

McBean Park

The Portuguese community of Lincoln was instrumental in developing the  city’s largest venue, McBean Memorial Park. Spread across 24 acres, the park offers a swimming pool, skate park, playground, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, football/baseball stadium, and numerous picnic areas. Wow, that’s a lot!

McBean Park Pavilion

Families always enjoy the McBean Park Pavilion. It’s like having your own resort in the heart of the city. This 6,270 square foot pavilion is equipped with an exceptionally large, well-appointed kitchen, reception hall, 2 wet bars, and a large entertaining stage. It can comfortably hold 500 people! Who could ask for more? And by the way, there’s some great food that comes out of the kitchen. Yum!

Private Space in the BBQ Area

Set apart from the Pavilion is the McBean Park BBQ Area. Yes, even the barbecues have a designated place with its own name. The entire area is paved and protected from hot summer sun by a state-of-the-art structure. It’s the perfect place for a private barbecue. And yet, visitors can still enjoy everything else going on in the park.

And let’s not forget the little ones! Near the BBQ Area is the McBean Park Playground. Once again, it’s designated space with its own name. The area is fenced for safety and is filled with various play structures that will keep little kids and big kids happy and entertained.

I fell in love with McBean Memorial Park. And I’m not the only one. This park is truly beloved by all who visit. It’s certainly a BIG park in a small city full of warm, inviting people and a whole bunch of pottery! Who knew a slice of heaven was tucked away in the small city of Lincoln, California?

Go enjoy the park. Take a picnic. Take the kids. Take the dog. Take your family and friends and enjoy the open grassy area and everything else this wonderful park has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.
